Final Score River Pirates 17, Grey Jays 9
Clinton Kay drove in four runs on two hits to lead the River Pirates past the Swelaps Market Grey Jays 17-9 on Thursday at Norbrock. Kay doubled in the second inning, scoring three runs, and singled in the fifth inning, scoring one.
Both offenses were strong at the plate as Purple collected 12 hits and Grey five in the high-scoring affair.
Grey got on the board in the first inning after Delray Willis singled, scoring two runs.
Grey scored five runs on one hit in the top of the second inning. Parker Sauer drew a walk, scoring one run, Quinn Bjordal singled, scoring one run, Kiestin Evans induced Colton Thompson to hit into a fielder's choice, but two runs scored, and a steal of home scored one run.
Purple scored six runs on three hits in the bottom of the second inning. Jon Capricci drew a walk, scoring one run, Evans drew a walk, scoring one run, Kay doubled, scoring three runs, and Matt Olsen tripled, scoring one run.
Momentum swung sharply to Purple in the bottom of the fifth, scoring 11 runs on eight hits to take the lead, 17-8. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Capricci that drove in two.
Evans led things off on the bump for Purple. The starting pitcher gave up five hits and nine runs (seven earned) over six innings, striking out four and walking eight. Christian McCauley stepped on the hill first for Grey. The starter gave up four hits and six runs over four innings, striking out six and walking six.
Purple tallied 12 hits in the game. Kay and Raphael Olivares each collected two hits for Purple. Sean Poeppel drew a game-high three walks to lead Purple. The River Pirates offense stayed selective and was rewarded with 10 walks.
Thompson drove the middle of the lineup, leading Grey with three runs batted in. The left fielder went 1-for-2 on the day. Devon Grant, Dylan Kooistra, Thompson, Bjordal, and Willis each collected one hit for Grey. Sauer led the way for Grey with two walks. The team showed great discipline at the plate, drawing 8 walks over the course of the game.
