Despite seeing their 5-run lead whittled down by the end, the Gators still held off for a 9-7 victory on Monday. The Swelaps Market Grey Jays closed the gap by scoring on a single and a walk.
Scott Hughes collected three hits in four at bats in the win. Hughes tripled in the sixth inning, doubled in the second inning, and singled in the eighth inning.
A ground out by Tyler Gertzen put Green on the board in the top of the first.
An error extended the Green lead to 3-0 in the top of the second inning.
Grey tied the game in the bottom of the seventh thanks to a single by Jim Arner, a walk by Wyatt Trent, and a walk by Colton Thompson.
Green flipped the game on its head in the top of the eighth, scoring five runs on three hits to take the lead, 9-4. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Karl Reddick that drove in two.
Dan Bowen began the game for Green. The starting pitcher surrendered nine hits and four runs over six and one-third innings, striking out four and walking one. Jared Pringle started on the hill for Grey. The pitcher allowed three hits and three runs (zero earned) over three innings, striking out two and walking two. Kasyn Sawisky appeared in relief for Green.
Mike Brisebois and Reddick each drove in two runs for Green.
Grey accumulated 11 hits in the game. Thompson, Parker Sauer, and Delray Willis each collected two hits for Grey. Arner and Willis each drove in two runs for Grey. Grey turned one double play in the game.
